CBT Therapy for life and recovery.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an evidence based psychological therapy and a recommended treatment for anxiety and depression.

CBT is recommended according to NICE https://www.nice.org.uk (National Institute Of Clinical Excellence) guidelines.

What is CBT?

CBT is based on the concept that cognitions (thoughts), feelings, physical sensations and behaviours are interconnected.

That our unhelpful thoughts and feelings can trap us in a vicious cycle. CBT aims to help clients deal with overwhelming problems in a more helpful way by breaking them down into smaller parts and changing your relationship with them and how you view your place in the world. There are a range of different techniques that are used to explore negative beliefs held about self, others and the world. By challenging our unhelpful and long held beliefs, patients will experience a change in their feelings and behaviour. Whilst therapy focuses on the here and now life experience will be explored, we know that our childhood shapes our view of ourselves and the world and therapy will explore what has formed and contributed to these beliefs

How can CBT help you?

CBT is used to treat many different issues in collaboration with your therapist sharing responsibility, experimenting with new ideas and testing out both old and new beliefs.

CBT Therapy builds a therapeutic tool kit that you can use and build upon in relapse prevention.

CBT is  a therapy for life and recovery.

When art meets science, held by an experienced and compassionate therapist, you can get better.

Samantha Spencer

“I am committed to supporting those who choose to work in collaboration with me to support them to make an enduring change through a meaningful therapeutic experience”.

I have worked in a variety of settings in the field of mental health services: HMP Prison services in specialist addictions units & rehabilitation, Community drug services NHS Primary Care with IAPT and the Priory Hospital Bristol with inpatients and outpatient services.

Each of these positions has built skills of understanding, therapeutic alliance, compassion and commitment to each of the people that trust me to support them.

I believe in the ‘art and science’ of CBT and the therapeutic value and benefit of those coming together.

This requires effort and personal investment, and it can feel hard, so let’s take a breath together and test it out.

I work within the ethical framework of the BABCP as a member and commit to regular supervision with a qualified CBT supervisor. I am an insured therapist.
